Kelly's Korner

Not by Kelly Burke
Moral Superiority
People often stop me at the grocery store and ask me, "Kelly what should happen when lawyers run afoul of the law?" I tell them that lawyers should be held to a different standard than mere mortals. For example, if a married lawyer has an illicit affair with his secretary, he should be disbarred and burned at the stake. Adultery is a crime in the Great State of Georgia! I can hear fanatic fornicators now, "wait a minute Kelly, isn't that a tad severe?" To them I say emphatically NO! Nothing is too severe for those attorneys who flagrantly disregard the law. If an attorney is caught speeding, the officer should be empowered to impound the attorney's bar card immediately pending disbarment. I can imagine defense attorneys saying, "What about degrees of wrongdoing, what about redemption?" I say hooey. If you are not perfect in your actions you have no place before the bar. Jesus may have said, "If any one of you is without sin, let him be the first to throw a stone." Let me assure you, I have the stones.
